Sergeant Mixter was a member of Company A, Command and Control Central, 5th Special Forces Group. On January 29, 1971, he was a member of a long range reconnaissance patrol in Attopeu Province, Laos near the "Parrot's Peak", Cambodia when contact was made with the enemy. He was killed by a B-40 rocket propelled grenade. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
