Captain Moe was a member of Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 13, Marine Air Group 13, 1st Marine Air Wing based at Chu Lai Air Base in Quang Tri Province. On September 26, 1967, he was flying in a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4B) over Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
