First Lieutenant Moran was the pilot in a F-82 Twin Mustang night fighter with the 68th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, 6160th Air Base Wing. On August 7, 1950, while on a combat mission southwest of Chinju, he dropped an emergency flare prior to his plane crashing. His remains were recovered.
