Staff Sergeant Moreland was a member of Detachment A-101, Company C, 5th Special Forces Group. On February 7, 1968, he was defending Lang Vei, South Vietnam against a combined North Vietnamese Army infantry-tank assault, which overran Lang Vei. He was killed during the attack. His remains were recovered and identified on October 13, 2010. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
