Specialist, Fifth Class Murphy was a member of Command and Control, South, 5th Special Forces Group. On March 18, 1969, he was a member of a reconnaissance team inserted into Kampong Cham Province, located in south central Cambodia. During the ensuing fight he was killed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
