In August 2015, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency exhumed the remains of an Unknown Soldier buried in Plot G Row 7 Grave 28 at Florence American Cemetery with the belief that an identification could be made. DNA analysis and historical evidence were used to positively identify the remains as belonging to SSgt. Byron Nelson. His name remains permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at Florence American Cemetery.
