Specialist, Fifth Class Nickol was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment. On October 26, 1971, he was a passenger in a Boeing Chinook Cargo Handling Helicopter (CH-47B) enroute from Tuy Hoa to Cam Ranh Bay, South Vietnam. At the time of the last contact, the aircraft was near Nha Trang. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
