Technical Sergeant Nixon was the leader of the third squad, first platoon, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On August 7, 1952, during an assault on "Bronco Hill" in North Korea, his squad came under intense enemy small arms and grenade fire. He was seriously wounded in the face. Later, he was unaccounted for and listed as Missing in Action. He was presumed dead on January 4, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
