Joe Barnett Norris was born in Warren County, Georgia on January 8,1887. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 8, 1908 at Fort Slocum, New York. He was promoted to Sergeant in the 10th Ordnance Company during World War I. He married Ramona De Norris and retired on December 31, 1938. After retirement he remained in Panama. He died at Gorgas Hospital on May 13, 1961 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
