For his leadership and valor, Colonel Nye was awarded the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Colonel Nye was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of a B-26C Invader bomber with the 34th Bomber Squadron, 17th Bomber Wing. On October 7, 1952, while on a day mission, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire, burst into flames, crashed and exploded. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
