Colonel Palmgren was a member of the 428th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Ubon Air Base, Thailand. On April 22, 1968, he was flying in a General Dynamics Aardvark Fighter (F-111A) on an attack mission against the Mi Le Highway Ferry over Dai Giang along Route 101, Laos. His aircraft crashed near Quang Bien. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
