Lieutenant Colonel Pattillo was a member of the 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On February 16, 1971, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission near Ban Dakyon, Laos, where his aircraft was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
