Lieutenant Colonel Perry was a member of the 346th Bomber Squadron, 307th Strategic Air Wing, Utapao, Thailand. On December 20, 1972, he was a crew member of a Boeing Stratofortress Bomber (B-52G) bombing Hanoi, North Vietnam, when the bomber was shot down by a surface to air Missile. His remains were recovered on December 4, 1985 and identified on January 13, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
