Captain Pool was a member of Command and Control, North, 5th Special Forces Group. On March 24, 1970, he was team leader and being extracted by a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) from 14 miles inside Cambodia in Ratanokiri Province. As the helicopter began its ascent it was hit by enemy fire, exploded and crashed. His remains were recovered on April 12, 1995 and identified on June 20, 2001. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
