Sergeant First Class Ramos was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Sergeant First Class Ramos was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in the vicinity of the Naktong-Gang River near Yongsan, South Korea on August 31, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered.
Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of Sergeant First Class Israel Ramos were accounted for in 2024. His name is permanently inscribed on the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.
