Private First Class Rarick was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. His unit was cut off behind enemy lines during the Chinese Spring Offensive on "Horseshoe Ridge" north of Chunchon and near the 38th Parallel. He was listed as Missing in Action on April 24, 1951. He was presumed dead on December 12, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
