Staff Sergeant Reid was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On September 13, 1967, he was declared missing while guarding a bridge in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. His remains were recovered on June 13, 1996 and identified on March 11, 1999. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
