Chief Warrant Officer, Second Class Reid was a member of the 48th Aviation Company, 223rd Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Brigade. On February 20, 1971, he was the pilot of a Bell Huey Utility Helicopter (UH-1C) on a mission of providing gun cover for an emergency re-supply mission about 20 miles southeast of Sepone, Laos. His aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on April 13, 1998 and identified on November 9, 1999. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
