First Lieutenant Riddell was a veteran of World War II, flying over 100 missions in the China-Burma- India Theater. During the Korean War, he was a member of the 139th Fighter Squadron of the New York National Guard. On October 19, 1952, he was flying a F-51 Mustang when it crashed and exploded near Mohawk, New York.
