Colonel Robertson was a member of the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On September 16, 1966, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a bombing mission on a railroad bridge in the Red River Delta, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down by hostile fire. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
