For his leadership and valor, Master Sergeant Romanek was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Master Sergeant Romanek was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was wounded in South Korea on August 11, 1950 and returned to duty on October 6, 1950. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 30, 1950 and died while a prisoner on January 20, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
