Sergeant Ross was a radio operator with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On January 22, 1969, he was on a combat operation about 20 miles northeast of Phu Cat, Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam, when he was shot and killed. His remains were recovered on September 29, 1997 and identified on February 18, 1998. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
