USMA Class of 1950, Second Lieutenant Rushing was the pilot of a RF-51D Mustang fighter bomber with the 39th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 18th Fighter-Interceptor Group. On March 3, 1952, while on a combat mission, his aircraft began losing fuel so he bailed out over water. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
