Specialist, Fourth Class Schimberg was a member of 20th Aviation Detachment (later known as the 131st Aviation Company). On January 9, 1966, he was the observer in a Grumman Mohawk Aircraft (OV-1A) on a night reconnaissance mission in South Vietnam. Contact was lost when the plane was a short distance from Tuy Hoa in Phu Yen Province and he was listed as killed in action. His remains were recovered on October 6, 1993 and identified on December 17, 1998. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
