Staff Sergeant Schultz was a senior medical advisor with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On July 21, 1970, he was wounded and helping evacuate the other wounded. Before the helicopter could be fully loaded, it had to take off. Staff Sergeant Schultz grabbed the landing skid and was carried 300 feet into the air then he lost his grip and fell into the jungle. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
