Chief Warrant Officer, Second Class Schultz was a member of 176th Aviation Company, 14th Aviation Battalion, 16th Aviation Group, 23rd Infantry Division (Americal). On January 5, 1968, he was the pilot of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1D)on a mission to insert 5th Special Forces personnel into Laos. As it approached the landing zone south of Lao Bao about 20 miles inside Laos, it came under heavy 37mm anti-aircraft fire, dove and crashed. His remains were recovered on March 15, 2002 and identified on November 13, 2006. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
