Sergeant First Class Scurlock was a member of Command and Control, 5th Special Forces Group. On December 21, 1967, he was a member of a reconnaissance team in Laos. After an attack by the enemy, the team called for extraction. Sergeant First Class Scurlock was climbing a ladder to a rescue helicopter when he was hit by enemy fire. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
