Private First Class Sheriff was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously Wounded in Action while fighting the enemy in Korea on April 24, 1951 and died of those wounds on April 28, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
