Staff Sergeant Small was a member of Company C, Detachment A-108, 5th Special Forces Group. On March 6, 1967, he was a member of a patrol near Minh Long, South Vietnam, when it was ambushed. e was declared Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
