Major Sprott was a member of the 6th Special Operations Squadron at Pleiku Air Base, South Vietnam. On January 10, 1969, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Skyraider (A-1H) on a mission 20 miles southwest of Da Nang, Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
