Sergeant Major Stark was a member of Detachment B-52, 5th Special Forces Group. After insertion about one and a half miles into Laos west of the Demilitarized Zone, on December 2, 1966, he was declared Missing in Action after fighting a superior enemy force. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
