Captain Steadman was a member of the 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On November 26, 1971, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission out of Thailand. As the aircraft crossed the Laotian border into Savannakhet Province, radio contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
