Captain Stolz was a member of the 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On December 26, 1971, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) over Thanh Hoa Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down and struck the Ham Rong Bridge. His remains were recovered on April 6, 1988 and identified on December 13, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
