Private First Class Stoves was a member of Company A, 1st Battery, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. On January 10, 1967, he was crossing a stream in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam in a sampan, when the sampan sank and he was washed away. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
