Master Sergeant Stropes was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while heroically defending his position against superior enemy forces near Yudam-ni, North Korea fighting the enemy in Korea on December 2, 1950.
