Lieutenant Colonel Stuart was a member of the 346th Bomber Squadron, 307th Strategic Wing, Utopea Air Base, Thailand. On December 20, 1972, he was the pilot of a Boeing Stratofortress Bomber (B-52D) on a bombing mission over Hanoi, North Vietnam, when the aircraft was shot down by a surface to air missile. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
