Private First Class Svehla was a rifleman with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. On June 12 1952 while fighting the enemy in North Korea, an enemy grenade fell near his comrades. Without hesitation he fell on top of the grenade and was killed while saving his comrades. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
