For his leadership and valor, Captain Thompson was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Silver Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart and the National Defense Service Medal.
Notes
Captain Thompson was a veteran of World War II, flying 91 missions. During the Korean War, he was a fighter pilot, serving in the U.S. Air Force in the United States. On February 12, 1952, his fighter aircraft exploded near Mansfield, Ohio killing him.
