William Alphonzo Torbert was born in Union Springs, Alabama on July 31, 1883. He moved to Panama in 1904 to work as Chief Clerk with the Panama Canal Company. After retirement he continued to live in Panama. He died on November 27, 1947 at Rio Hato and is buried at the Corozal American Cemetery near his wife, Maria, and his grandson, Woodrow G. Torbert, Jr.
