For his leadership and valor, Corporal Torres was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Corporal Torres was a squad leader in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on September 9, 1950 and returned to duty on September 18, 1950. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Unsan, North Korea on November 2, 1950 and was killed by a guard on November 5, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
