Captain Trotter was the pilot of an OE-1 Cessna observation aircraft with Marine Observation Squadron SIX, 1st Marine Division. On September 9, 1952, while on a reconnaissance mission over enemy territory, his aircraft was shot down. No parachutes were seen. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
