Specialist, Fifth Class Turner was a member of 118th Aviation Company, 145th Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Brigade. On October 9, 1969, he was flying in a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1D) on an extraction mission near the shores of the Song Dong Nai River in eastern Long Khanh Province, South Vietnam when the helicopter's rotor blade struck a tree causing it to lose altitude and sink in the river killing him. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
