For his leadership and valor, Captain Verrant was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Gold Star, the Air Medal with 8 Gold Stars, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Captain Verrant was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of an AU-1 Corsair attack fighter with the Marine Attack Squadron 212, Marine Air Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On May 14, 1953, while on a combat mission near Anak, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire, exploded and crashed. He was listed as Missing in Action. He was presumed dead on May 14, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
