Captain Wagner was a veteran of World War II as navigator/bombardier with the 73rd Bomb Squadron, 11th Air Force. During the Korean War, he was a member of the 830th Bomb Squadron, 509th Bomb Wing. He and 52 other airmen were participating in a SAC Bomber Command exercise originating at Walker Air Force Base, Roswell, New Mexico and destined for Mildenhall Air Base, England. The C-124 aircraft went down in the North Atlantic on March 23, 1951 with the loss of all on board.
