Sergeant First Class Wald was a member of Command and Control North, 5th Special Forces Group. On November 3, 1969, he was on a long range reconnaissance mission 30 miles inside Laos near Ban Chakevy Tai in Saravane Province. He was declared Missing in Action. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. SGT 1C Wald's remains have been recovered and identified.
