Aviation Firefighter First Class Wallace was a crew member of a PBM-5 Mariner patrol bomber with Patrol Squadron 731 U.S. Navy. On returning from a patrol on June 14, 1951, his aircraft experienced a hard landing in Manila Bay, Philippines. He drowned.
