Captain Wallis was the pilot of an AT-6D Mosquito observation aircraft with the 6147th Tactical Air Control Squadron, 6147th Tactical Air Control Group. On April 20, 1951, he was flying an air-ground mission, when his aircraft crashed near Kaochang-ni in enemy territory.
