Private First Class Ward was a member of Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was killed while advancing toward the Chosin Reservoir near Funchilin Pass in North Korea on November 6, 1950. His remains were recovered on September 1, 1954 and was identified on November 29, 2005. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
