Lieutenant Commander Weimorts was a member of Attack Squadron 85, Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63). On April 22, 1966, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) on a target near Vinh, Ha Tinh Province, North Vietnam. When his aircraft began its roll-out from the bombing run it crashed into the water 5 miles off shore. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
