Warrant Officer, First Class Weitkanp was on temporary duty from the Army Attache Office, American Embassy, Vientiane, Laos. On March 23, 1961, he was a passenger in a Skytrain Transport Aircraft (C-47) on a trip from Vientiane to Saigon when the Pathet Lao anti-aircraft guns cause the aircraft to crash in Laos. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
